Man on railway line located by helicopter

At about 20.45hrs the force helicopter assisted in searching the railway line from Barnstaple to Umberleigh, following a report from a train driver that a male was on the line.

The helicopter crew utilised the thermal image camera and night vision goggles, and located the male, kneeling between the rail tracks some 2.5 miles south of Barnstaple. Despite the presence of the helicopter the male did not remove himself from the track and to safety, so the helicopter crew ensured all trains were stopped whilst they guided in ground units.

The male was escorted from the track unharmed.
